Abridgement Statement
JourneyForth identifies some of our classic novels as light abridgements for the sake of clarifying that they differ slightly from the original novel. The abridgement occurs in two ways.
- Obscure words have been replaced with appropriate synonyms. These are words that cannot be found in a current dictionary or are not easily comprehended from the context of the surrounding text.
- Long narrative and descriptive passages have been tightened or deleted when they do not advance the story.
These changes have been made with the today's reader in mind and to maintain the integrity of the author's literary heft while improving the readability.
